Why The Governor's Pleasure ? Thomas Potter Macqueen did not come to Australia until 1834 at which time he moved into his homestead which had been established for him by his overseer Peter McIntyre. In no time at all, Macqueen, as he always did, made his presence felt and became very unpopular with other Free Settlers in the area. Governor Bourke, hearing about the unsettlement, made the long and arduous journey to Segenhoe Estate to investigate. He was greeted with great fanfare at the entry to the homestead - flag waving and very happy looking convicts and free men alike who worked the estate. Assessment of the dissention by Governor Bourke resulted in unexpected findings - Thomas Potter Macqueen was seen by other Free Settlers in the area to treat his convicts too well!! This beautiful room is named in honour of Governor Bourke and his visit to Segenhoe Estate.
